In May 2025, the JPII girls' track and field team secured the state championship in Yakima with outstanding and record-breaking performances. The Eagles accumulated 91 points, marking their second state championship in the last three years.
The boys' team also had several podium finishes at the state meet on Saturday and competed well.
Here are some highlights from each event in which our athletes participated.
Discus
Claire had the throw of her life with about a 13-foot PR and finished third at state in her first state meet. She led the event with her fantastic school record-breaking throw for a portion of the event. Sisi had her best throw ever in the discus, with a nice PR at State when it mattered most.
Sean had a good first state meet and competed well. Sean started throwing late in his high school career and will attend WSU in the fall.
High Jump
Kevin K. competed in his second consecutive state high jump final as a sophomore. He broke the school record in the high jump this year.
4x100 Meter Relay
Delaney, Lindsay, Zoe, and Shaina set a school record and are poised to make the finals next year.
4x200 Meter Relay
Tani, Lindsay, Amy, and Zoe set a season PR and placed seventh on the state podium. The team looked strong. Tani and Lindsay are seniors. Tani will attend the University of Mary in North Dakota and Lindsay will attend the University of Portland.
4x400 Meter relays
JPII teams made the state finals in the 4x400-meter relay.
The girls placed second in the finals in the school record time. Tani, Addie, Ruby, and Amy had a huge race and broke the school record by several seconds. Thanks to Zoe and Lindsay who also ran the relay at different times this year.
The boys ran the second-fastest time in school history and placed seventh on the podium. Congrats to Liam, Nick, Martin, and Kevin, and Eric who ran the relay at different times this year. Four of the five are back next year.
300 Hurdles
Amy had a fantastic race, breaking the school record and finishing second at state! Amy did great.
800 Meters
Ariel won her second consecutive state championship in the 800 meters in a thrilling final 100 meters in school record time!
Ariel completed her career with state medals in the 800, 1600, and 3200-meter events and has one of the most podium finishes in school history. She will run in college next year after having a wonderful senior year.
Addie and Liam competed well in their 800-meter heats in the girls' and boys' events and had some stellar relay performances.
1600 Meter Team Makes History
We were blessed to go 1, 2, 4, 5, 8, and 13 in the 1600 finals in the state 1600-meter finals. Ruby is the state champion for the second consecutive year, with Ariel second, Lily fourth, Addie fifth, Isla eighth, and Kiera thirteenth. Keira is a senior and will run collegiately next year.
It was one of the strongest team finishes in 1600-meter state history regardless of classification, with five students from the same school on the podium. We are thankful.
Kevin and Eric made the podium on the guy's side in the 1600, finishing third and seventh, respectively, and both ran personal records at state! Eric is a senior and will attend Oregon State University in Pre-Med next year.
3200 Meters Team Makes History, Too!
The JPII girls were blessed to set an all-time best at the state track-and-field championships today in the Yakima meet, setting a state team point record in the 3200-meter run.
The girls went 1,2,3,6, and 7 in the finals.
Ruby defended her Washington State High School state title and was followed on the podium by Addie, Ariel, Isla, and Lily. Chloe also finished high in the state finals, as six team members worked hard and made the finals.
Addie ran a huge PR to place second in the state championships! Addie completed her career with state medals in the 800, 1600, 3200, and 4x400 meter relays. She will be missed. Addie plans to attend the University of Santa Clara in California next year.
Kevin and Eric made the podium a second time in the 3200 meters, finishing fifth and sixth, respectively.
Eric finished his high school career with state medals in multiple events.
All of our distance runners did great in the heat of Yakima!
Alternates
Thank you to all of our alternates who did not compete but gained valuable experience for next year by watching the state meet and participating in team workouts.
Parents
A heartfelt thank you to all the parents who helped at the meet!
We want to thank our parents for their exceptional daily logistics assistance and for troubleshooting various tasks on race day. We also appreciate all the help with food preparation for our 26 athletes at the state and coming up with creative solutions to stay cool.
We also want to thank families for capturing all the wonderful moments in the photos. Thanks to all parents not mentioned here for all you do behind the scenes daily with transportation to and from practice.

Team Dinner the night before the big day
The entire team went through a vision and goal setting exercise the night before state. Claire on the far left and Sisi right next to her both had their best ever discus throws a couple of days later. Claire had a 13-foot PR to finish third at state and Sisi also had a huge PR.

She became a two-time Washington State 800-meter champion through hard work, dedication, and a supportive community.

Eric finished in fifth place, while Martin and Liam were state finalists in the 1600-meter event, making a total of four JPII runners in the final. Three of our four finalists return next year.
